Where is doreen melbourne
Not to mention paving the way for the acceptance of low standards by those doing the planning and design. For goodness sake, demand better in life and don't accept mediocrity! ChristianS no I do not have any vested interest apart from being a home owner, which to some extent is a vested interest. Sorry to have come across as argumentative but I think our different perspectives might have a lot to do with our relative circumstances.
I work reasonably close in Broadmeadows and can reach my workplace in 30 minutes. I gather from your post that you have a young family and I take it from that that you are younger and probably buying your first home. My kids are older and getting close to being independent. I live in a very comfortable house and have lots of nice trees around my house.
The houses on my street are not crammed together. I dont see too many houses that are like that but agree that there are some houses. I think another reason for our different perspectives may be down to stress. If you commute to the city daily and spend three hours doing so then obviously your satisfaction with your present lot in life will be less. It takes me an hour out of my day to commute.
I guess another of my points was that nowadays almost anywhere in Melbourne the traffic has become quite horrendous. Even inner city suburbs have become very congested. We need to learn to live in a more sustainable way and use more public transport and live closer to where we work or work more remotely online. Many of your general points are correct. The government have taken our money first and then only begrudgingly are acknowledging our needs. The good news is that we may finally get a train.
It may not solve all the problems but should make things better. Ultimately its going to be a choice of whether you like living close to work in a smaller crappier surroundings among the pollution, the homeless and the crime or do you prefer the slower pace in the suburbs with a bigger newer house but at the cost of a longer commute.
I wish you and your family well. I mean what I said when I recommended planting a few trees and encouraging your neighbours to do the same. It might not solve your distance problems but your street and the comfort of your surroundings will look more relaxing and homely.
All I can say is the great majority of people in Doreen love it and are very happy and proud to call it home as do I. I can't understand the extreme views of some of the people here. You can just see how clean streets and the shopping centres are and how courteous drivers are the confirm that this is a quality suburb full of quality people. Another vote for Doreen. Its a lovely suburb. I am very sad to see some people trying to paint such a wrong image of it.
Is Doreen a safe neighbourhood? Is it safe after dark? What are your neighbours like? Hi Anna, we feel it is very safe. We regularly go for a walk around 10pm and have never encountered any reasons for concern. People slow down for ducks and birds on the road and are considerate to other road users. Our neighbours are lovely and in general Doreen has very much of a community feel.
Hey Christian S Sounds like you have purchased in a location that is not suitable to your work and or family lifestyle. Can i ask, did the town of Laurimer choose YOU to purchase here? PS: unfortunate that i came across this post so late.
Doreen is beautiful and peaceful suburb to live. It's friendly atmosphere and nice walk paths. Close to all amenities, improved roads, new train line, schools, bunnings, shops. The laurimmar Estate is breath taking. I don't regret moving to this area. I would recommend it. Hi, we are planning to move to Doreen riverstone estate. What do you all think about the area? The commute to the city can be quite long due to road works but hey, it takes 30 minutes to drive 1km in the city so who cares!!
Love living here. Really family-friendly community with multiple parks and playgrounds within 2mins of most streets. Doreen is just a very well urbanly planned and picturesque suburb. And when I say suburb I mean the whole suburb not just a couple of streets. The roads are wide and smooth with bicycle lanes on the main roads and pedestrian footpaths that make every where walkable from park to park to park there are a lot of parks!
The suburb is centred around a lake with lots of natural flora and birdlife which add to the scenery even more - I'm yet to find another suburb in Australia or the world like it. It's basically all young families here and everyone feels safe enough to let their kids go around the neighbourhood by themselves no busy roads.
It's such a wonderful feeling when you drive into the suburb from Hazel Glen Road or Flaxen Hills Rd and see the water, landscaped streets, neat lawns, brick houses. My only complaint was that it took 80mins door to door to get to work in the city, but post-Covid I only need to commute once or twice a week and can work remotely from home.
I can see myself living here even after the kids are all grown up and I'm retired - there's 2 fantastic and affordable golf courses both within 9mins drive to Doreen. No train station like the other suburb? Who cares!!! Having a train station in a suburb can be a double-edged sword.
Very nice looking neighbourhoods, uniform areas with many parks spread throughout. Lots of schools and shops around, surprisingly built up area, very suited to family life or even just couples. Roadworks are being finalised, so the commute out from Doreen is improving. That being said, there's a very very large proportion of bogans. Bogan tradies, bogan soccer moms, bogan everything. And you WILL hear bogan hoons every night revving their vehicles and doing burnouts in suburbia.
You can tell people hate working customer service positions in this area because of the demographic they must deal with. Also apparently there have been incidences of people threatening pets in the area? Think twice before moving here to boganville. Blinding LED headlights are par for the course out this way. People love using their highbeams and refuse to turn them off. I'm super doubtful that there is a block of land available where you can't hear dogs barking at all hours.
Maybe you attract bogans like some people attract mozzies because I don't know of any bogans. And in general drivers here are polite and considerate, sometimes too considerate. As for dog barking I've not heard any that could be considered continuous or habitual and I live amongst so many neighbours. I think it's wonderful you are so passionate about the area and that's what we need to see more of. Jason you must been unlucky to live right next to an inconsiderate neighbour or on a roundabout.
The suburb is master planned with wide roads and homes set back far from the nature strips. S bogans who drive Audis and Mercs aren't really bogans. I have been in Doreen for 3 years now and love everything about it from the beautiful lakes walking tracks nearby shopping strip. There's a few estates in Doreen.
We live in the Laurimar Estate. Even before you drive into Laurimar town centre you automatically feel a sudden peace as you see the majestic old red gums standing tall against the flat grazing land as they have for hundreds of years. We have been living here for more than 2 years having moved here from the Hills district in Sydney and wanted something similar in terms of dwelling size and family friendly demography.
We bought a large 4 bedroom home complete with a double garage, 2. The neighbours are friendly many with young families of their own and everybody's front lawn is neat and tidy reminds me of the neighbourly-themed Hollywood movies. The suburb is nestled between Plenty Rd and Yan Yean Rd which are both being upgraded now which we are really looking forward to because it will mean faster drives to the city and other nearby bigger shopping centres such as Doncaster Westfield reminds me of Chatswood , Greensborough Plaza reminds me of Castle Towers and Plenty Valley Westfield similar to Hornsby.
Newly built Mernda station takes you into the city in less than 60mins and run frequently. Demography is mainly Caucasian here but no racism. The estate has numerous well maintained playgrounds for the kids and pets to enjoy and several large ovals for sports and activities. There are several small restaurants and takeaways of all types of cuisines which are of above average quality which is enough for us because fine dining isn't exactly easy when you have small children.
I love my house. The local Leader editor refuses to print the story, siding with the police deparment's view of things. But hey, other than that little incident, life in Doreen has been peachy,. Yep same here attempted African invaders in April police didn't bother a lot of coverup. To be honest I do like it in Doreen but it does have a few issues. Doreen is a decent sized area that includes some farming properties on the north east side.
The early Doreen residents enjoy rather large properties and leafy streets but Laurimer estate is over valued. While a traditional outside mall could have been a great feature, it has been ruined. There is a lot of government housing in Laurimer. Over plenty road in Mernda Villages I would say has been done a lot better. More like Doreen 10 years ago. I moved from Glen Waverley and found people are very reluctant to say hello or smile.
Huge difference between Glen Waverley community and Doreen one. May be Doreen people don't like non whites. Overall not a pleasant experience here. Have planned to go back to Glen Waverley or it's surrounding suburbs.
Do you smile or say hello first? Just the other day I was waiting for some teenagers to walk past as I was doing some gardening and they both apologised that they were holding me up. Awesome and quite area. Very good to families. A lot of park and green areas.
If you have a family and looking to quite and safe are. Definitely Doreen. Very family friendly and just a great atmosphere. Very safe and clean suburb. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else! I have recently moved to Doreen from Greensborough and I really like it here. Doreen has been changed so much in the last couple of years, there are more homes, more shops , more schools and is now more vibrant than it used to be.
Doreen has a very leafy, greeny atmosphere like Greensborough and Eltham has, new and low maintenance. Doreen is only 15 mins to Greensborough and Eltham. I am looking forward to all the things happening in Doreen in the next few years. Yes me too! I wonder what it's going to be like when they finish the North East link. An express train service to CBD would also be nice too for those that work in the city.
I have recently moved my family to Doreen into a very nice family home. I got plenty of space for the kids now and multiple living areas which is great! Homes in Doreen are on a reasonable size block generally with a low maintenance backyard which means less time required gardening or doing house work and more time I can spend with my family.
It is really worth your money. Doreen is a very nice place to live. I am very excited, the South Morang - Mernda Rail extension is due to commence in the coming months and completed by Great parks, great shops with everything you need yet you get a country feel but not far from the ring Road or Westfield shopping centres!
Doreen is by far the best suburb I've lived in, it feels so country but with everything so close. A very safe friendly suburb. I've lived in Doreen for 10 years now and I'm so appreciative that we live in such a beautiful place. Friendly neighbourhoods, beautiful clean suburb that feels so homely and country but close to ring road and suburbs with big shopping malls etc.
I love Doreen. I feel very safe. I am from Switzerland. I moved to Doreen because it and its surrounds remind me of home. Also the people are very nice and friendly. I no longer work and live a retired life and this place is perfect for me. All my friends who visit me are always remarking how nice and quiet and picture perfect Doreen is. Recently there have been big improvements in bus services and it is now very easy for me to travel anywhere in Melbourne by bus and then by train.
It will be even nicer when in early the train arrives in Doreen and Mernda area. When I have to travel by road it is sometimes quite congested but that is so everywhere in Melbourne, which is why I have started more and more using public transport. Doreen has now two or three doctors and some nice coffee and cake shops.
It has about 5 nice restaurants with very nice food. One of them has even live music at times. I cannot say how much I love Doreen and feel at home and at peace here.
Everyday I enjoy walking my dog and meeting all the friendly and relaxed and polite people and I take in the undulating green countryside and think to myself how lucky I am to live here. I normally dont write reviews or go on the internet so much but because some people wrote some not so things I felt I had to share my perspective.
Way too far from the city. Very difficult commuting. Never have breakfast or dinner with the family because I travel so far. Constant sounds of burn outs, bogans, terribly loud music and construction work. Supermarkets charge way more for goods than in the city. Heaps of the properties are rentals and have unfinished nature strips and unfinished gardens.
Lots of big dogs that never get walked. Tiny house plots with no gardens. Nothing to do for children. Tattoos everywhere. No shade anywhere. Even if the mernda train station is built the epping line is way too slow and over crowded. Bad design everywhere. God help you if you don't have air conditioning during summer. I bought out here because it was all I could afford but I should have saved up and bought in a different area. Would be a much nicer area if the plot sizes were bigger, the houses were spaced apart, the council planted shady trees, there were better parks and radically better public transport which will never happen.
Hard to get a good quality house built. The developers are dodgy. Christian I can only empathize with someone who is in your predicament. If you work in the city then Doreen will be challenging for you.
Unfortunately traffic congestion is a reality everywhere. I have friends all over Melbourne and for those who work in the city any commute will always take over an hour one way. Your comment about trees is strange. What do you expect will happen when farm land is converted to housing. Trees take time to grow. Submit website. Do you know of any agricultural activities in Doreen?
Cities, Towns and Villages. Mountains and Hills. Rivers and Creeks. Weather Stations. Name Distance km Mernda. Panton Hill. St Andrews. Kinglake West. Pheasant Creek. Yarra Glen. Named Laurimar, the subdivision is in Whittlesea City. There are a town centre with shops, a primary school and a community hall, and an extensive linear park with a wetland.
The main boulevard is Hazel Glen Drive. It adjoins a campus of Ivanhoe Grammar School. Like Laurimar, the eastern land is in Nillumbik shire, and remains undeveloped except for the Doreen primary school pupils, and the Plenty Valley Christian College.
