The last 2 years have seen me developing an automatic training apparatus that trains dogs in a discrimination task and then tests whether they are optimistic or pessimistic.

It has taken a lot longer than I imagined and we have changed the design of the apparatus several times. It could be tweaked endlessly! My apparatus requires no human intervention at all and rewards with lactose-free milk. I still have problems with the training program, though.

The reward rate is difficult because the discrimination task means dogs are often getting it wrong and not getting a reward for a period. However, this project has been quite fun and I have a burning desire to follow up with designing more automated training for dogs. I wonder if with some truly interactive learning games they can do on their own we could change things for them.

I purchased the MannersMinder a couple of months ago. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that my sweet yet headstrong Chi is responding tremendously to the MM training. Congratulations on producing such a wonderful training tool! How am I supposed to view the CD that came with the product? There is no executable, zip, or otherwise file to start the viewing. Also, one directory is blank. I borrowed a different CD from a friend and came up with the same issues Derrell.

Hi Dereal. We are very sorry to hear about this. They hold the license, and manufacture and support the product. The battery for the clicker that came with my new unit is bad. I purchased replacement batteries with same number, but they do not work either.

So what do I do? Hi, we are very sorry to hear this. I have both the Treat n Train and the Manners Minder. They are excellent training tools. I have one complaint. I have tried many types of dry kibble for the treat, which is always very small for small size dogs. Both machines get clogged very easily with the kibble and I have to stop and go and clean out and reset. Please give me some brands of kibble that others have used successfully and not had so much downtime.

Are the remote interchangeable? I like that the older model has the option to plug into AC. Do you foresee the Treat and Train being produced again?

Premiere Pet Safe had eliminated the AC option and no longer seems to be making them. Both are made by Pet Safe so the remotes should be swappable.
